Beautiful Mohave Purple Turquoise - What is it?

As you may be able to guess from my jewelry designs, turquoise is my favorite stone.  But there is another stone that runs a close a second.  That stone is Mohave Purple Turquoise.

It is so eye catching and unique and not too many people have heard of it.  Here is a little background on this stone.  First of all, it is primarily turquoise that has been dyed purple.  It is then mixed with turquoise particles - the beautiful blue Kingman turquoise, along with a bit of bronze metal that creates the matrix.  Mix in the polymer and the crushed particles are compressed into a brick.

A lapidarist (a stone cutter), purchases one of these gorgeous bricks and through his/her skill and artistry, cuts the brick into unique shapes called cabochons.  The lapidarist that I purchase my cabochons from is based in Arizona and he cuts some amazing stones!

Once I have the stones the creativity kicks in and I let the stone tell me what it should become - a bracelet, a pendant, a ring?

As always, treat your jewelry with care.  The last thing you put on - after the hairspray and the first thing you take off.  Store them in jewelry bags or ziploc bags to keep the air out.  See the section on my website called "Caring for your Jewelry."
